Freight loading volumes on network owned by Russian Railways up 1% in January 2021

According to the latest figures, freight loading volumes on the network owned by Russian Railways amounted to 101.2 million tons in January 2021, 1% more than in the same month last year.
Freight turnover in January 2021 increased by 1% compared to the same month last year and amounted to 211.6 billion tariff ton-kilometres. Freight turnover taking into account empty wagon runs increased by 1.7% over the same period and amounted to 269.6 billion ton-km.
The railways shipped the following categories of freight in January 2021. Figures in brackets show the percentage change compared to January 2020:
- coal – 30.8 million tons (+ 5.2%);
- coke – 0.9 million tons (+ 4.4%);
- oil and petroleum products – 18 million tons (-9.6%);
- iron and manganese ores – 9.8 million tons (-2.9%);
- ferrous metals – 5.7 million tons (-10.8%);
- ferrous metal scrap – 0.9 million tons (+ 39%);
- chemical and mineral fertilisers – 5.7 million tons (+ 10.6%);
- cement – 1.2 million tons (-0.1%);
- timber – 3.4 million tons (+ 9.4%);
- grain – 2.7 million tons (an increase of 1.7 times);
- construction materials – 8.1 million tons (-3.8%);
- nonferrous ores and sulphur feedstock – 1.6 million tons (+ 5.3%);
- chemicals and soda – 2.1 million tons (-5.9%);
- industrial raw materials and moulded materials – 2.3 million tons (+ 8.4%);
- miscellaneous cargoes, including in containers – 8 million tons (+ 3%).
