24 july 2020

On 23 July 2020, Russian Railways, the Kaluga Government, the Municipal Administration of Borovsky District, the Municipal Administration of the Vorsino Village and the Kaluga Special Economic Zone Stock Corporation signed an agreement of intent for the development of railway infrastructure in the vicinity of Vorsino Station on Moscow Railways. The development is meant to ensure the operation of one of the Kaluga SEZ sites, which is located in the Borovsky district of Kaluga region.

Russian Railways is considering the possibility of building and operating railway infrastructure to meet the needs of residents of the Special Economic Zone under the terms of a public-private partnership. The preliminary total volume of rail traffic would be about 300,000 tons of freight per annum, with the prospect of further growth.

The total investment in the project could amount to at least 500 million roubles.

Since 2019, Russian Railways, together with the government of the Kaluga Region, has been implementing a concession on the construction of railway infrastructure to meet the needs of residents of the Kaluga SEZ in the Lyudinovsky district.
