Transit of containers between China and Europe in first three quarters exceeds levels for all of 2019
In September 2020, container traffic transported on the infrastructure owned by Russian Railways along the China - Europe - China route increased by a factor of 1.7 compared to the same month last year, rising to 50,800 Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units (TEUs). Loaded containers increased by a factor of 1.8 times to 48,200 TEUs.
In the nine-month period from January to September 2020, container traffic on the China - Europe - China route amounted to 387,900 TEUs, which was up by 1.6 times compared to the same period last year. That figure included 374,800 loaded TEUs, an increase by a factor of 1.8.
As a result, the traffic volumes for the first three quarters of this year have already exceeded the levels for all of 2019 by more than 40,000 TEUs, when 347,000 TEUs were transported.
The increase in transit volumes was facilitated by setting competitive pricing conditions, expanding the range and improvement of the quality of services and diversifying transit routes.
